Seth Kim-Cohen [2 O'Clock Clock]
July 2006
Installation Project Space, New Haven, CT
The 2 O'Clock Clock is fashioned of the bottom of a galvanized metal trash can, the steel hoop which keeps it circular, and one hundred plastic specimen jars. One inch discs have been drilled out of the trash can and inserted into the jars. The trash can bottom creates a large circular shadow filled with one hundred smaller circles of light. The specimen jars are arranged in such a way that at 2 o'clock each day the sun entering the gallery through a triangular window aligns the small circles of light with the specimen jars and the drilled discs which once filled the corresponding holes in the trash can bottom, thereby announcing the time: 2 o'clock.
